Description
The Faculty of Education was founded by the Slovene Parliament's decree on 12 February 1986. It had its roots in the tradition of college education whose primary goal was to train teachers in the field of social sciences, humanities, natural studies, arts (musical and fine arts). Its basic orientation is pedagogical, as it is concerned with professional training of teachers for pre-school, elementary and secondary school levels (from kindergarten to the baccalaureate). One remnant of the oast is also the prevailing form of double-major study programmes with various possible combinations of majors. A novelty, however, are single-major programmes. Half of the existing programmes fall into this category, and is expected that more will follow suit. In the year 2001/2002 the Faculty offers 7 single-major university studies and 15 double-major university study programs as well as 1 professional higher education program and 1 single -major university non-pedagogical study program. Joint degree programs There are joint degree programs between the faculty of Education and the programs in education offered by Theological Faculty: students may choose any combination of major offered by the two faculties. Single-major university non-pedagogical study program: - history Single-major professional higer education program - preschool Education The professional higher education study programme of pre-school education lasts 3 years (6 semesters of course work) The Research Institute of the Faculty of Education at the University of maribor is a Slovene research institute, which is concerned primarily with the research of northeastern Slovenia. It covers various disciplines: humanities, social studies, natural sciences, and cultural studies. One of the institute's priorities is the systematic recruitment and education of research staff, needed by scientific, archeological, cultural and educational institutions and by museums.
