ARIS research and infrastructure programmes
Legend
Žiga Špiclin graduated in electrical engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, in 2006, and earned his PhD in electrical engineering sciences from the same institution in 2011. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at Harvard University in the United States, and after completing his PhD, he was a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. Since 2020, he has been an associate professor at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. His research work in the Laboratory of Imaging Technologies includes the development and evaluation of algorithms in the fields of computer vision and medical image analysis, as well as the development of applications, primarily in the area of magnetic resonance imaging of the head for the diagnosis and prognosis of neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular conditions such as brain aneurysms, and the adaptation of radiotherapy planning. Within the scientific research community, he serves as a member of the program committee of the MICCAI conference (since 2011) and MICCAI PRIME (since 2018), and he was a member of the organizing committee of the WBIR workshops in 2020 and 2024. He is a recipient of the University of Ljubljana’s award for outstanding research achievements, which he received in 2016 and 2024.
