Description
Pulp and Paper Institute (ICP) is a research institution which helps Slovenian paper converting industry strengthen its competitive position on the market by transfering its professional expirience and knowledge, obtained through different research projects. Its educational activities are also very important. ICP is managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Slovenian Pulp, Paper and Paper Converting Industry Association respectively. It is the only institute of its kind in Slovenia, which deals with the quality estimation of pulp, paper and board products. For this purpose there are specialized laboratories and a skilful team of experts. By the help of numerous pilot plant devices (paper machine, coating machine, printing machine, pulping line, etc.) it is possible to simulate many industrial processes, which are used in the branch. The research topics are directed towards technological problems of the paper industry to which ICP is closely related. The main currently running fundamental research project refers to the investigation of fiber and paper surface, while the applicational ones deal with the following subjects: - efficient waste water and solid waste management in the paper industry - paper quality evaluation for different digital printing technics - investigation of paper ageing processes Simultaneously, some new products are being developed for the customers from the industry. ICP is also intensivly involved in various important international research programs. For the time being it takes part in FAIR and INCO-Copernicus programs respectively with one project and in COST program with three projects. We have applied as partners for as much as three projects in the 5th framework program of EU. ICO organizes each year several educational courses for professional workers from the industry. On the other hand it cooperates with the University of Ljubljana and enables under and postgraduate students to work for their B. Sc., M. Sc. And Ph. D. degrees in the field of pulp and paper technology and converting. ICP is also authorized to perform waste water monitoring and other services like calibration of the laboratory measuring equipment, professional consulting (ISO 9000) and informing. ICP employs 38 persons, among them are 15 researchers.
