Significance for science
The achievements of aims set in this research program contribute new knowledge to genomic medicine in the fields of reproduction and gynecology, and to the use of stem cells in these fields. We improve the knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of the studied diseases and identification of diagnostic and prognostic genomic biomarkers. We contribute to the potential use of gonadal stem cells in infertility treatment, and the use of muscle derived stem cells in the treatment of female urinary incontinence.
Significance for the country
The direct impact of the research program includes a contribution to the protection and improvement of human health, to clinical and hospital treatment, and to primary and secondary prevention of diseases related to human reproduction. Its indirect impact includes the development of expert guidelines, education and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and active inclusion into top international medical research in the fields of genomics and stem cells.
