Biography
Refreshed on September 2018. Gregor Primc graduated in 2010 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana with a bachelor thesis from plasma field entitled “Variation of the density of the oxygen atoms in an experimental plasma reactor using a movable recombinator”. His education continued at the end of 2010 with enrollment to the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, where he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in May 2014 entitled “Determination of neutral atom density with laser powered catalytic sensor”. During his Ph.D., he studied gaseous plasma, plasma discharges (DC, RF, MW), plasma source technology, plasma diagnostics (single and double Langmuir catalytic probes), real time measurement of plasma radicals and their dynamic control. During 2018/2019 he was a postdoctoral associate at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Materials Engineering, Centre of Advanced Aerospace Technology, Czech Republic under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Petr Špatenka. His work involved plasma characterization with innovative laser powered catalytic sensor as well as optical emission spectroscopy (OES) of several plasma system used primarily for foil and powder treatment. Currently he is employed at “Jožef Stefan” Institute as a researcher with Ph.D. Gregor also toured abroad visiting foreign universities where he studied plasma diagnostics with electrical Langmuir probes (hosting with Prof. Dr. David Ruzic, Urbana Champaign, Chicago, USA, February 2011) and DC plasma discharges (hosting with Prof. Dr. Kostya Ostrikov, CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering, Lindfield, Sydney, Australia, April and May 2012). In the scope of a European project he also contributed in a cooperation between “Jožef Stefan” Institute and VITO Research Institute (Mol, Belgium). Besides knowledge on plasma physic, plasma sources (DC, RF, MW) and diagnostic (electrical probes, catalytic probes, optical emission spectroscopy, mass spectrometry), he is a skilled programmer (LabView™, C Sharp, Matlab™), a competent user of PCB (printed circuit board) software (Altium™), skilled user of Microsoft Word™, and a competent user of Corel Draw™. Between 2010 and 2018 he attended several conferences with conference paper and poster contributions as well as invited lectures (3), and published more than 25 peer reviewed academic papers in SCI journals (with impact factors as high as 7.6, 6.8, 4.0, etc.). He is the author and/or co-author of several patents and patent applications, of which three of them have already been granted and four of them are waiting to be granted. He received the 1st award at the 7th International Technology Transfer conference (September 2014, Brdo, Slovenia) for the innovation with the highest commercial potential entitled "Laser Fiber Optic Catalytic sensor" what led to the establishment of a spinoff company "Plasmadis d.o.o." (with executive function) together with 3 co-workers. The company was established for marketing activity of the innovative sensor for characterization of gaseous plasma. For his efforts he also received the award for outstanding achievements in year 2014 awarded by the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. Since 2015 he was a project leader on two project, one being a Slovenian start-up grant (P2) for the spin-off company and the other being Slovenian postdoctoral project for young scientists, entitled »Heterogeneous surface recombination of neutral reactive plasma particles on nanostructured material«. Besides his scientific achievements he is also active in organizational and social activities. He was the head organizer and chair of the organizing committee of several conferences and held an interview on National TV program and two interviews for a Slovenian newspaper Finance.
