Abstract
The basic objective of the project is to determine those methods of managing road slopes, particularly extremly steep ones, which solve the problems permanently and using the best possible method from the ecological, biological, aesthetic and economic points of view. The study involves the viable connection of biological and technical measures on the road slopes. In order to determine, which plant species are the most suitable from the points of view of both the biological and technical properties of plants and the creation of best living condition in general, numerous research plots (about 180) were selected all over Slovenia. On each plot the floristic list was made and coverage of each species was estimated (upon Braun-Blanquet scale), the growth of some woody species was measured and vitality was estimated. In addition some ecological factors were measured (temperature, humidity and some soil parameters) and some characteristic communities were elaborated. The research is also of considerable importance for the determination of criteria for the quality control of work connected with vegetation.
