Abstract

Biodiversity studies in the forests can be based on ecosystem, population and genetic levels and can depend on structural and functional indicators. The proposed project comprises i) genetical studies of oaks (genetic variability, hybridization and introgression of genes among the common oak, sessile oak and downy oak) along the humidity gradient of the oak sites in Slovenia, ii) species diversity studies of fungal symbionts and pathogens, and iii) functional groups of microorganisms ibn the mycorrhizosphere and their roles in carbon cycling (pools and fluxes) in the forest ecosystems.
