Zdenek Smutny is an Associate Professor of Applied Informatics specializing in Social Informatics at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics, Prague University of Economics and Business, Czechia and a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Social Informatics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. His current academic focus includes social informatics (teaching and research), intelligent transportation systems (applied research projects), and advancement in informatics methodology (teaching of doctoral students and research in social informatics methodology). In the past, he was involved in digital marketing (applied research). He is co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Acta Informatica Pragensia, which is indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, the world's most prestigious scientific citation databases.
He has published over eighty peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. He is or has been a guarantor of master's and doctoral courses focused mainly on the social and psychological aspects of information technology, social informatics, business process improvement, or preparation and presentation of scientific publications. He was a supervisor or opponent of over a hundred bachelor and diploma theses in the field of informatics. He also worked as an R&D Project Manager focused on intelligent transportation systems for various organizations and helped them implement innovations into practice, developed new technologies and supported their commercialization. He has over twenty years of experience in European and Czech applied research and development projects (more than 20 projects) in the aggregate value of higher units of millions of euros.
