Biography
Mateja Dostal studied English Language and Literature and Slovenian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. She completed her studies with two theses: "Managing Business Negotiations" (English) and "Communication in Slovenian outlets" (Slovene) and holds a joint degree in English and Slovenian language and literature. Her studies continued at the Department of English and American Studies as part of the EU European Business Communication and Management Programme. She obtained her Master's Degree from the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana with a dissertation entitled: "The Efficiency of Teaching Business English with Business Cases" and received her PhD in English language from the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor with a dissertation entitled: "The role of the teacher in the development of foreign language communicative competence for business meetings in English: the case of business meetings simulations". Her experience in teaching English as a foreign language and teaching ESP (English for Specific Purposes) is extensive. She was first employed at the Centre for Foreign Languages (CTJ, Vilharjeva), where she taught English language and prepared workshops and seminars for businesses and since 1997 at the Faculty of Economics. During this time, she has participated in international symposia, conferences, seminars and workshops. She was the lead researcher for Slovenia in the European Commission project PIMLICO: Language Management Strategies and best practice and European SMEs; As a University of Ljubljana researcher she worked together with seven partner European universities on Erasmus LSP Teacher Training TRAILS project (-2021). Besides, she worked on LSP Teacher Education Online Course for Professional Development (LSP-TEOC.Pro) Erasmus project (-2023).
