Cryopreservation of spermatogonia and oogonia cells was developed as an alternative to the conservation of mature sperm and eggs, mainly due to lack of a successful protocol for fish egg cryopreservation. In conjunction with the interspecies transplantation of cryopreserved spermatogonia or oogonia cells, the method could be used as an effective conservation method for endangered species.
