Small destinations in large tourism market: the analysis of Western Balkan countries and the Chinese outbound tourism

The growing purchasing power in People´s Republic of China and formation of the middle classes with corresponding consumption practices and lifestyles have increased the demand for foreign travel. While Western Balkan region is not among the "hot spots" of Chinese outbound tourism, the number of Chinese tourists is on the rise also in this region. The article highlights characteristics of Chinese outbound toruism in the region of Western Balkan with more detailed analysis of trends and activities in Montenegro and Slovenia.

Home away from home

The scientific monograph is a detailed analysis of transnational social spaces of specific group of Chinese citizens that reside in Slovenia but mantain manifold connections with their kin and kit in the places of origin as well as around the world. While the book is largely based on earlier research it represents an important aspect of the intertwinement of different types of moblities due to increased integration of the Chinese state into global political and economic relations. Most importantly, it illuminates how the perceptions on China and Chinese are constructed among different audiences in Slovenia.

The article addresses the immigration proces from PRC to Slovenija with focus on the analysis of children experiences in Slovenian schools. It importantly adresses the topic of this project by highlighting the nature of Chinese migrant children' socialization and the lack of validation of their knowledge received in China as well as their Chinese cultural registers. The article puts forward an argument that their knowledge can be crucial in the country of settlement, especially in the field of tourism. As reseach has shown these mediators can be vital for the development of a destination.

From patriots to traitors: Migration, development, and construction of “emigrant districts” in People’s Republic of China

The article addresses the development of counties in PRC, that are characterized by an increased mobility of its inhabitants. The article hilights the different development of two locations; in the first the mobility is encouraged, while in the second the mobility is seen as problematic and the development on the basis of these histories is blocked. For the project it is important that the project touches upon the phenomenon of "red tourism" (heritage of socialist past) which is often considered to be one of motivations for visiting posttsocialist countries in SEE.
