Workshop “Sniffing for carcinogenic substances – Research for toxic gas molecule sensing with networks of carbon nanowalls”

At the JSI, department F4 we organized small thematic workshop on the field of research for toxic gas molecule sensing with carbon nanowalls. The participants were project partners from Slovenia along with guests from Japan and Czech Republic. On the workshop we learned everything from basics of gas molecule detection, systems for measuring, state-of-the art in the field as well as challenges that we face. In the frame of this workshop, the new research aims to be tackled with joint efforts were agreed.

Conversion of metal-oxide nanowires by irradiation

The innovative solution for preparation and structural modifications of plasma synthesized nanowires with election irradiation was presented at this congress. With this method, we were able to prepare the lower stated metal oxides, which have more stable structure and are nanoporous. This method gives larger surface area of material and more bonding sites for molecules.

Atmospheric pressure plasmas for nanotechnology

In the invited talk at one of biggest Chinese universities, the potentials of atmospheric pressure plasma surface engineering of nanomaterials were presented. The special aim was given to building 2D and 1D nanostructures with plasma, and modifications of these structures for improved molecule sensing.
