Influence of the microstructure of 0.9Pb(Mg[sub](1/3)Nb[sub](2/3))O[sub]3-0.1PbTiO[sub]3 ceramics on the electrocaloric effect

In the contribution the effect of the grain size of 0.9Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.1PbTiO3 ceramics on the electrocaloric (EC) temperature change (ΔT) of the material is studied. The powder compacts were sintered at 1200 °C for 2 h and at 1250 °C for 16 h to obtain ceramics with the relative density above 95 % and uniform microstructures with the grain sizes of 2.8 µm and 9.4 µm, respectively. In order to study the EC effect, indirect and direct EC measurements were performed. Both materials confirmed a large EC effect of this material. A characteristic peak of ΔT as a function of the electric field was observed near the critical point, with the ΔT of 2.1 °C at 115 kV/cm and 107 °C, irrespective the grain size of the ceramics.
