The patent expalins the invention of the electrocaloric energy conversion used for cooling. The EU patent is the work of the partners from Jožef Stefan Institute and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, and was sold to the house-appliance company Gorenje. Patent applications have been filed also in USA and China.
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 29642791In October 2017 we organised a Workshop on electrocalorics and thermoelectrics in the frame of the international MIDEM conference (B. Malič served as the Workshop chair). Invited speakers were the leaders in the field of calorics and their application in cooling: Xavier Moya (Cambrige University, UK), Brahim Dkhil (Ecole Centrale, Paris, France), Sylvia Gebhardt (Fraunhofer Institute, Dresden, Germany), Emmanuel Defay (LIST, Luxembourg) and Andrej Kitanovski (UL, FS, Slovenia). The Workshop was an excellent place to exchange ideas on future of calorics, and having experts on thermoelectrics in the same workshop stimulated further ideas on possible collaborations.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 291740160The invited talk of the PI at the Meeting of the European ceramic society discussed the progress towards application of relaxor-ferroelectric multilayer elements in solid state cooling.
B.04 Guest lecture
COBISS.SI-ID: 30645031In the contribution the processing of PMN-10PT multilayer elemnts and their electrocaloric properties were discussed. Due to the careful processing the multilayer exhibited properties comparable to bulk ceramics, which has not been the case in earlier reports. The PhD student was awarded at the conference with the Best poster award by the European ceramic society.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 29675559The contribution presented the results of a modelling study and experiment focussed on exploring both electromechanical and electrocaloric response of a relaxor-ferroelectric material to electric stimulus. PMN-35PT cantilvers wer were used both as actuators (or micro-electromechanical systems) and as heat-transfer, i.e., electrocaloric cooling elements. The PhD student obtained the Best poster award of IEEE UFFC-S at the student poster competition.
