The eighteenth Brumaire of Jacques Derrida

»The Eighteenth Brumaire of Jacques Derrida« was a lecture given by Jernej Habjan at the international colloquium titled (Mis)readings of Marx in Contintental Philosophy, which took place on 11 November 2014 in Ljubljana. The colloquium was organized by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana, the ZRC SAZU Research Center, and the Philosophy Research Initiative at the University of Western Sydney; the latter also contributed most of the funding. The colloquium took place on the occasion of the publication of the collective volume of the same title, which appeared in Fall 2014 with Palgrave Macmillan. At the colloquium, Habjan, who also co-edited the volume with Jessica Whyte, presented a paper on the relevance of deconstructive philosophy for the contemporary theorization of ideology. He located the limit of this relevance in the spontaneous anti-statism of deconstructionism, which in this respect coincides with contemporary neoliberalism.

The Greening of the Economy

In response to a recent OECD report on Slovenia, which proposes the so-called greening of the economy and a corresponding tax reform, Aleksandar Kešeljević assesses these suggestions by comparatively analyzing the Slovenian green economy and its tax system. Kešeljević demostrates that the relatively low level of household debt in Slovenia allows for considerable investments in energy sanitation of household-owned buildings and that this dimension of greening should also be considered in the process of implementing the property tax.
