Serial quantification of BCR–ABL1 mRNA is an important therapeutic indicator in chronic myeloid leukaemia, but there is a substantial variation in results reported by different laboratories. To improve comparability, an internationally accepted plasmid certified reference material (CRM) was developed according to ISO Guide 34:2009. Two suitability studies performed by 63 BCR–ABL1 testing laboratories demonstrated that this set of 6 plasmid CRMs can help to standardise a number of measured transcripts of e14a2 BCR–ABL1 and three control genes (ABL1, BCR and GUSB). The set of six plasmid CRMs is distributed worldwide by the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (Belgium) and its authorised distributors https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/referencematerials/catalogue/; CRM code ERM-AD623a-f). This achievement is important for all patients with this disease in the world and the hematologists they treat. The verification was published in professional literature, and the plasmids are accessible online.

COBISS.SI-ID: 31742169The relationship between oncologists and their cancer patients is rapidly evolving. Oncologists and other cancer professionals master new anticancer and supportive treatment options, while working under increasing economic pressure and time constraints, and are often unprepared to deal with all the challenges of their new position in a therapeutic relationship with cancer patients and families. Good communication is as essential as are modern laboratory tests and sophisticated diagnostics to achieve the best clinical results. This book updates the evolution of truthtelling and communication patterns worldwide and offers insights into the recent trends and emerging challenges in communication with cancer patients and families. It is an invaluable resource to medical professionals, educators and patients in establishing a strong and effective partnership built on trust and mutual understanding.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1353595Surgery is a modern and comprehensive textbook on surgery for medical students in Slovenian language. Chapter Thyroid was written by Professor Nikola Bešić very systematically. He presented the embryology and anatomy, epidemiology, classical and modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of pathological changes of the thyroid gland. A major emphasis was on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach in the treatment of thyroid cancer.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1772923New national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer allow patients and doctors involved in treating patients with thyroid tumors better communication with each other. The guidelines also bring into our country novelty about which tumors can be observed only and do not need additional diagnostics and treatment. Patients' treatment is now adjusted to the patient, the degree of risk of recurrence of the disease and the progression of the disease and the type of tumor.
