Tensiomyographic measurement of atrophy related processes during bed rest and recovery

On yearly congress of European Space Agency we presented a new concept to assess early skeletal muscle atrophic processes that could not be evident from anatomical analyses. Our solution could be used to validate muscle adaptations in short-term space flights or short-term bed rest studies for simulating space flight on Earth.

PhD of young researcher being supervised by Boštjan Šimunič, entitled: Biomechanical and geometrical adaptation of skeletal muscle and its muscle fibers on 14-day bed rest and active rehabilitation in elderly subjects

This was the most important PhD mentorhip for this project. Candidate was actively involved in my previous ARRS project (2012-16) and successfully concluded a yougnresearcher position with a PhD. She modelled adaptations of physical inactivity and training on a single muscle fibers on a whole skeletal muscle system. However more tensiomyography based final works were supervised by me: 4 diploma, 1 master thesis, 1 PhD (another 3 just before a defence). Additionally 3 more PhDs were defended at a Medical faculty.

Approved international centre of excellence: FIFA medical centre of excellence

Based on a series of projects in elite sports, especially in football, we achieved in 2015 that the best football club listed tensiomyography as a key assessment method in their "Muscle Injuries Clinical Guide 3.0". Only few months later World football association recognised our work in the field of football and awarded us as "FIFA medical centre of excellence". Since then we have already started third scientific project on early detection/prediction of football injuries as well as on safe return after injury.

DEMUSE tool – tool for decomposition of multichannel surface electromyograms

The software provides fully automatic decomposition of surface electromyograms, recorded in isometric muscle contractions, into contributions of individual motor units, thus, noninvasive investigation of muscle control strategies, also in children and needleintolerant patients. In the last four years, it has been tested in more than 1000 healthy subjects and patients with neurodegenerative diseases. It is currently being used in investigations of children with cerebral palsy, in computer aided diagnosis of Parkinsonian and essential tremor, in studies of diabetes, in planning of cleft lip surgeries, in design and evaluation of rehabilitation techniques after stroke and in studies of muscle atrophy and hypertrophy. The areas of other potential applications include ergonomics, training of athletes, studies of impact of microgravity on human motor system and myocontrol of prosthetic devices. DEMUSE tool is available at http://demuse.unimb.

Developmental trend of 5 skeletal muscle contractile properties of 9-14 year old children

Ve have acquired developmetnal trends of 5 skeletal muscle contractile properties - estimated myosing heavy chain composition. We further acquired also international project ERASMUS+ (2017-19) project for further detailed research work in this field
