Algae and cyanobacteria are - as primary producers and pioneering colonizers - key organisms for life on earth. Among them is a very important group of oxygenic diatoms. The paper presents algae, specifically diatoms, which demonstrated a broader ecological tolerance to environmental stressors as it was known till recently.
