LAVRIČ, Ana (editor-in-chief), Blaž RESMAN (assistant editor). Religious confraternities and their role in visual art, (Acta historiae artis Slovenica, 21/2, 2016). Ljubljana: France Stele Institute of Art History ZRC, 2016. 210 pp., ill. ISBN 978-961-254-859-9.

The articles in the thematic issue of Acta historiae arts Slovenica, dealing with this research field from the perspective of art history discuss several novel topics. They focus on medieval confraternities, questions of confraternities’ role as patrons, and Marian iconography of the major confraternities in the Baroque period. The interdisciplinary character of the project is reflected in the contributions that tackle confraternities from the perspective of general, church and literary history. The project has importantly increased awareness of these research themes in Slovenian art history, and has encouraged further research also in other fields of humanities.
