A new type of toxin A-negative, toxin B-positive Clostridium difficile strain lacking a complete tcdA gene

Toxins A and B are the main virulence factors of Clostridium difficile and are the targets for molecular diagnostic tests. Here, we describe a new toxin A-negative, toxin B-positive, binary toxin CDT (Clostridium difficile transferase)-negative (A- B+ CDT-) toxinotype (XXXII) characterized by a variant type of pathogenicity locus (PaLoc) without tcdA and with atypical organization of the PaLoc integration site.

Survey of community-associated-methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Slovenia

The aim of this study was to investigate susceptibility patterns, virulence gene profile and clonality among MRSA isolates with positive screened resistance phenotype for CA-MRSA collected from patients in Slovenia In 151 isolates fulfilled our screening phenotypic definition (126 CA-MRSA and 25 HA-MRSA) were analysed in antibiotic resistance, MLST, spa and presence of toxin genes. Our results show high variability of CA-MRSA circulating in Slovenia and also the presence of LA-MRSA clones.

The SOS response master regulator LexA is associated with sporulation, motility and biofilm formation in Clostridium difficile

This paper decribes changes in cell morphology, toxin A production, sporulation, motility and biofilm formation in C. difficile deficient for LexA which is one of the major regulators of SOS response in bacteria. This system and its role in Gram positives and in particular in C. difficile is poorly characterized.
