A lecture course at the most important summer school in the firld of instrumentation in particle physics, XII ICFA SCHOOL ON INSTRUMENTATION IN ELEMENTARY PARTICLE PHYSICS, BOGOTÁ, November 25th – December 6th, 2013. The lectures dealt with most of the topics covered with the present project.
