Virulence genes of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli among Escherichia coli in the gut microbiota

At the international conference »Young scientists conference, Current issues in microbiology, immunology and biotechnology, Perm scientific forum«, Perm, Russia July 2. – 4th, 2015, we presented, within the framework of an invited lecture, the results of our study on the prevalence of extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli strains among E. coli of the gut microbiota.

The bacterial DNA damage repair SOS system governs bacterial competition

The inducible DNA damage repair system, SOS regulates the synthesis of bacteriocins of E. coli designated colicins. The main regulator of the system, protien LexA, represses expression of colicin activity genes, in some instances in concert with protiens IscA and AsnC.

Optimization of isolation of the Usp protein (uropathogenic specific protein) and analysis of its activity

Usp is a genotoxin produced by E. coli. We demonstrated that it destroys macrophages, key elements of innate immunity. We optimized isolation of the purified protein Usp.
