1.
Bacteria are essential for our health

The contribution describes the role of the microbiota for our health and development as well as the effect of antibiotics on our microbiota. Antibiotics are reducing the species content of our microbiota with serious health related consequences (an increase in the prevalence of astma, some cancers, chronic inflammotory diseases as well as obesity).

Cold-adapted yeasts in Arctic habitats

This chapter summarizes literature and our own scientific findings of the presence of yeast in the Arctic glaciers and other Arctic habitats. These microbes have been discovered in the context of multiple sampling and subsequent identification and characterization of strains in Arctic Svalbard Archipelago.
