The re-creation and restoration of the sward of species-rich permanent grassland

In recent years, we are facing significant changes regarding our relationship with grasslands and biodiversity. On the basis of literature review a variety of techniques to create or design botanically rich turf are presented. Each of the presented techniques has its advantages of use, however all of them require a lot of time and patience to successfully establish the same as botanical diversity as donor site. Moreover they represent an extra cost to the contractor or. landowner. The considerations presented in this paper can help farmers to decide, which are the most appropriate methods of grassland restoration or rehabilitation of degraded areas.

Preservation seed mixtures for restoration of species rich sward

In this paper we describe the issues that have led to the use of permanent grassland for the production of preservation seed mixtures. Thereafter we focus on a new legislation (Directive 2010/60/EU), that regulates this kind of production. We concluded that despite legislation, there is still many things that are unclear regarding preservation seed mixtures. The economic interest for the farmers is also questionable We recommend collaboration between farmers and seed mixtures producers, by the example of Austrian and German producers.

Trial production of preservation seed mixture on the KroĊĦljev hill

This paper describes the participation of all three institutions in the harvest of seed of preservation seed mixtures in one of the selected locations with species-rich grassland. We've introduced features selected botanical diverse meadow grassland compared with grown from commercial seed mixtures. A brief outline of the new law, which regulates preservation seed mixtures and different possibilities of there use in the reconstruction of degraded land or in major construction sites in nature especially in protected areas and in organic production.
