The effect of supplementation of basal diet on the basis of good or bad quality grass silage containing high or low concentration of water soluble carbohydrates (VOH) with maize silage, fodder beet or molasses on digestion and efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in the rumen (EMPS) was investigated by the means of in vivo, in sacco and two in vitro metods. It was concluded that EMPS in grass silage based diets with high concentration of VOH can not be improved with the supplementation of feeds rich in VOH or starch.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2999944Cattle population in Slovenia is around 0.5 million, a good 100,000 of them being dairy cows. More than 80% of them are included in the dairy recording scheme. Cattle Information System covers most information activities in this scheme. According to their needs and permissions users (breeders, experts, advisers, veterinarians, etc.) can access the central database online. After logging into the web portal Cattle, the breeder enters into the ‘Farm Identity Card’ section, which provides the latest test day summary data on the farm. In addition to information on the level of production compared to the genetic potential of each cow, information on reproduction and lactation status of the herd is presented. Milk composition information on digestive disorders and excessive body reserve mobilisation based on the fat:protein ratio, urea concentration and information on somatic cell count distribution are presented in graphical form. This review can be extended to the general data on the farm, general data on the herd and its longevity, data on the latest annual recording report, as well as to summary data for the past 5 years. Among other items, it includes manure storage data with nitrogen losses and emission of greenhouse gases. In addition to general information, each of these sections provides links to in-depth data. E.g., by clicking the link for the latest test day data, we can access in-depth information on recordings of a particular cow. With its extensive volume of data, its way of presentation and easy access, the web portal Cattle is a user-friendly tool which helps the breeders effectively manage their herds.
