Characterization of plasma treated polymers by high resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

The project leader had an invited talk about presentation of the method of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which is used for the characterization of thin films and surfaces. Numerous practical examples of XPS method for the determination of surface composition and the thickness of surface layers were shown. This method is used also in the current project for determination of surface cleanliness before and after plasma treatment.

Comparison of etching rates of different polymers in oxygen plasma

In this contribution we have presented the reactions that take place on the sample surface during treatment in oxygen plasma. These surface reactions lead to slow etching of the treated material. Examples of etching of a variety of organic materials were shown, where we tried to find a correlation between the etching rate and chemical structure of the polymer material.
