Development of roots, diversity and role of mycorrhiza on beech

Invited review contribution for the monography on beech forests in Slovenia. The overview includes the role and studies of fine roots and mycorrhiza on beech in Slovenia, influences of different stresses and disturbances and the role of mycorrhiza in regeneeration of beech forests.

2.
Robust and cost-effective system for measuring and logging of data on soil water content and soil temperature profile

Production and testing of a new system for soil temperature and soil moisture measurements is presented. The system includes four digital and pre-calibrated sensors of temperature DS18B20 and two pre-calibrated moisture sensors EC-05. Also basic schematic presentations and a project for self-production are included, while the programme can be obtained from the authors.

Soil organic matter characterization at different forest stands in Slovenia

SOM has been characterized at four forest stands with soil texture in carbonate karstic-dinaric areas of Kočevski Rog – Rajhenav (RA) and Snežna jama (SJ), the silicate bedrock at Kladje (KL) in Pohorje and on Aluvioglacial gravel and sands (at Intensive Monitoring plot at location Brdo at Kranj- BR). The difference in SOM characteristics found at RA and KL were affected by different vegetation composition and litter quality. The vegetation composition together with climatic conditions and composition of microbial community were probably the main reason of more rapid degradation of SOM observed at KL.
