UNESCO-L’Oréal Fellowship For Women in Science 2012 was granted to dr. Vita Majce, a researher of this project. This fellowship enabled dr. Vita Majce to perform her research work in the laboratory of Dr. David Roper from University of Warwick, UK, who was an important partner of this project.

The project leader is a member of Editorial Board of international journal Acta Chimica Slovenica. The journal publishes papers fom all fields of chemistry, is cited in all major databases and has Impact Factor.

Process for synthesis of ezetimibe and intermediates useful therefor

Ezetimibe is important drug used for treatment of hypercholesterolemia. The generic production of ezetimibe represents an oportunity for the Slovenian pharmaceutical industry to compete on foreign markets. There was a need to develop a new economical process for the synthesis of ezetimibe which would provide high yields and at the same time be industrially acceptable. We developed such process in our laboratory and successfully transferred it to the Slovene pharmaceutical industry (Lek d.d.).
