Historical and Political Use of the Testifier

The article deals with on one hand the historical use of oral testimony from antiquity to the present, especially in terms of oral history, on the other hand (it calls our attention to) the often noncritical, political and manipulative use of oral sources by mass media. In the twisted conditions that are formed by this political and public use of recent history, the testifier takes the role of the eyewitness and his narration gains the unambiguous status of »new history«.

Asymmetries, Misunderstandings and Mirror Views: From a Nation-Centred Approach to Plurality and Reciprocity in the Historiography of the North-Adriatic Area

The article deals with the methodological and epistemological characteristics of Slovenian and Italian historiography, both engaged in the study of the history of the Italian-Slovenian border area in the 19th and 20th centuries. It discusses the methodological and epistemological consequences of the ethnocentric historiography and the challengesof cross-national and transnational historiography.

The memories of the reality: Testimonies of internees about Italian concentration camps in the Second World War

The article features testimonies of Gonars, Rab, Renicci and Monigo concentration camps survivors and is a complement to the existing research of the topic. Newly recorded testimonies reflect memories of the internees of the fascist terror they have lived through 60 years ago. the summaries of inteees in the perod 1942-3 direct attention to the capacity of the interviewees to rememver and narrate the events. Despite the memory becoming increasingly selective, styled, obscured it has to be recorded in order to ensure it a place in the present.
