Developing competency of future geography teachers through the concept map teaching strategy

The work is the result of an attempt to transfer theory into practice. The main goal was to overcome the existing patterns of educational work with both secondary school students (15–19 years old) and university students (19–24years old). The present study aimed to determine the extent to which we manage to equip future teachers with specific competencies for their continued work in (geographical) education. It provides evidence that even the most difficult tasks are not impossible, but adequate preparation, conception, quality of performance, a positive attitude and a desire for progress are obligatory in order to succeed

Geographical Imagination of Landscapes: Analysis of the Book of Photographs Slovenian Landscapes

The central part of the article focuses on the geographical imagination of landscapes, depicted in the photographs. The research stems from the assumption that photographs play an important role in shaping and preserving individual and collective imagination of a landscape and that geography as a science is closely connected to visual representations of the world. The goal is to design/formulate a methodology for photograph interpretation, especially to select the indicators and their categories as well as the criteria for a quantitative photograph evaluation. Using these methods, the appearance of the landscapes is analysed according to the individual indicators, placing special emphasis on surface form as the most important landscape element.

Landscape in Terms of the Rhetorical Figures Used in Literature about Slovenian Istria

The article discusses the geographical notions of the landscape in Slovenian Istria produced by rhetorical figures. It is based on the premise that figurative language is a mechanism that contributes to the cognitive and representational processes that take place in the literary and non-literary contexts, and is thus suitable for studying the perception and formation of one's relationship to the landscape. The paper is partly a result of the project The Space of Slovenian Literary Culture: Literary History and the GISBased Spatial Analysis as well.
