In presentation the authors were dealing with the economic potencial of water (rivers) in Slovenian Alpine Area until the early industrial age. Presentation was sistematically divided in two chapters. In first one the use of water (rivers) for traffic/transport purpose was presented. In the second chapter the energy potencial and use (mills, glassworks, sawmills, ironworks) of waters was presented. The consequence of substitution of energy sources was also discussed.
