Educación intercultural bilingüe en América Latina

This article discusses bilingual school programs, introduced in mid-20th century by several Latin American countries, and their positive results, which are reflected in a higher level of political integration and cultural autonomy of indigenous societies. In particular, examples of bilingual programs for Yucatec Maya children are presented, based on the fieldwork carried out within the 'Los ancianos' project conducted by the Museum of Tihosuco, one of the places where information required for the present research is being collected.

Based on comparative evidence from other archaeological sites, the article reveals astronomical, calendrical and cosmological concepts that dictated orientations and spatial distribution of important civic and ceremonial buildings in one of the largest Classic Maya cities.

The article presents preliminary results of the systematic study of orientations in Maya architecture. It derives from the first set of field measurements accomplished at a number of archaeological sites in the Maya Lowlands.
