OneClickSurvey

With the result of the project, in 2014 we additionally upgraded functionalities of web tool 1KA (EnKlikAnketa). The new stylish and technically upgraded version of 1KA was implemented and made it data collection and anaylsis more simple and user friendly. The offline version of 1KA was improved and also english website was substantively updated. From year 2007 dr. Vasja Vehovar has been developing a stand-alone module for online data collection – EnKlikAnketa or 1KA. The tool enables the user-friendly implementation of complex surveys and is not restricted only to web questionnaires but provides support for data entry, telephone surveys and mail surveys. The application is available at http://www.1ka.si (Slovenian version), while English version is available at http://english.1ka.si. The application already has over 21.000 registered users and it has already been used for implementation of more than 45.000 surveys for different research purposes. 1KA tool is also integrated in the AAI identification system and is moving to public ARNES cloud, where broad and stable use will be possible.

Web survey process within the concept of eSocial sciences

Scientific surveys represent an indispensable instrument of social research. In view of the list of errors that may threaten survey quality, there exists a continuing need of research on survey methods. This applies all the more, the more social change and technological progress challenge the present way of conducting survey research. The 2nd International Conference of the German Priority Programme on Survey Methodology (PPSM) with the title "Advancing survey methods" on 17th and 18th of November in Bremen, Germany, was targeting on recent advancements of methods developed for surveys to be conducted over the Internet, over the phone, by face-to-face interviews or mail questionnaires. Dr. Vasja Vehovar attended the conference and made a presentation on "Web survey methodology within the context of eSocialSciences". He presented an integrated development of online questionnaires.

Paradata insight into survey response behaviour

Authors have first represented relevance and research question. Their research was the (non)response behaviour in web surveys using paradata which offer a full insight into the questionnaire response process, allowing to observing the behaviour of respondents when going through the questionnaire. They also presented research methods and data, showed results and emphasize added value of the study.

WebSM

The WebSM web site (www.websm.org) is the central international online source of web survey methodology information (i.e. data collection with web survey questionnaires). The website was established in 1998 and upgraded within EU 5th Framework program that has ended in 2005. The web site is still upgraded and updated. For the development of WebSM website Vasja Vehovar and Katja Lozar Manfreda have in 2009 got the "Warren J. Mitofsky Innovators Award" awarded by AAPOR (American Association for Public Opinion Research).

5.
Costs in errors in official surveys

The study was conducted in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS). It investigated the possibilities of introducing web data collection into official surveys. The central part of the study was a representative survey on travel of domestic population, conducted on a probability sample of Slovenian residents. The authors used a mixed-mode survey design, combining web, telephone and mail survey modes. They carefully monitored response rates, response quality indicators, and costs. The findings suggest that the introduction of web data collection can importantly improve the reach of specific groups and contribute to overall data quality, despite lower response rates and somewhat increased research costs. On this basis, they prepared recommendations for introducing web data collection into existing surveys conducted by SURS. This presents an important contribution to improvement and optimisation of the data collection processes in Slovenian official surveys.
