The involvement of cytoskeleton in vascular disruption action of electrochemotherapy

In the invited lecture, prof. Cemazar presented the novel findings on the involvement of cytoskeleton in vascular disruption action of electrochemotherapy in respect to changes in organisation of cytoskeleton proteins and monolayer permeability. Our results suggested that the remodelling of the endothelial cytoskeleton and changes in endothelial barrier function occur both in vitro and in vivo in tumor blood vessels. The observed changes are more pronounced after electrochemotherapy compared to electric pulses alone. These results provide an insight into mechanisms responsible for vascular disrupting actions of electrochemotherapy.

The effect of electroporation and electrochemotherapy on normal and tumor vasculature in mice

Prof. Maja Cemazar was a supervisor of PhD thesis of young research fellow Bostjan Markelc. In 2013, Bostjan Markelc successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled The effect of electroporation and electrochemotherapy on normal and tumor vasculature in mice. He was awarded Krka prize for postgraduate students for his PhD thesis.

Electrotransfer of single-stranded or double-stranded DNA induces complete regression of palpable B16.F10 mouse melanomas

Prof. Maja Cemazar held a lecture at the Institut de Pharmacologie et de Biologie Structural, Universite de Toulouse. She presented novel findings on electrotransfer of single-stranded or double-stranded DNA. In multiple preclinical studies, a reduction in tumor growth, increased survival or complete tumor regression have been observed in control groups in which vector or backbone plasmid DNA electrotransfer was performed. This study demonstrated that the observed antitumor effects are not due to a single factor, but to a combination of factors.
