Characterising and cloning the venom components of the nose-orned viper that affect the human haemostatic system

Due to the conspicuous results in the study of haemostasis and haemostasis-related diseases we were invited to give an interview for a prominent American journal from this field "Circulation". In the interview IK described achievements of the group in the research of the haemostasis-affecting components in snake venom. He explained the purpose and goals of these studies and gave a projection of the future activities of the group.

Discovering innovative drugs and diagnostic tools to control haemostasis by venomics of the Vipera a. ammodytes snake

In the invited lecture the audience was updated with the results on Vipera a. ammodytes venomics project in which we aim to describe all components in the venom that act on human haemostatic system. Venom components interfering with platelet aggregation, coagulation cascade or fibrinolysis have been verified as potential lead compounds to develop novel agents for diagnostics and treatment of vascular thromboembolic disorders. The most promising in this respect have been cloned and recombinantly produced in larger amounts for further studies.
