Voting by Mail: More Convenient, but Less Secret Ballot Casting (Constitutional Dillemas and Comparative Overview)

The use of postal voting is increasingly being adopted worldwide. It is very suitable for persons with disabilities and elderly. Arguments in favor of voting by mail include higher turnout, lower costs both for authorities and voters, and more flexible elections regarding time and place of voting. On the other hand, voting by post is questionable from the secret ballot perspective. The article presents postal voting law and jurisprudence of Austria, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, and some other democracies. It weights the arguments in favour and against postal voting.
