Cell membrane of strictly aerobic hyperthermophilic Archaeon Aeropyrum pernix K1 consists of a unique combination of lipids, which enables it to survive at temperatures over 100°C. Arheosomes prepared from purified archaeal C25, 25 lipids were characterized physico-chemically, showing a great stability to the different environmental effects (temperature, pH). We examined the effects archaeal C25, 25 lipids on selected human cell lines in vitro, through cytotoxicity and interaction of lipid vesicles with cells.
