Sense of community and the importance of values

Sense of community is analyzed in two very different types of neighborhoods in Ljubljana, Slovenia: a large housing estate and a middle-class neighborhood of individual houses. The main research question posed is which individual characteristics are associated with sense of community in the two neighborhoods. A specific addition to current knowledge involves the inclusion of values as important characteristics associated with sense of community.

Planning of smart home with the aim of achieving higher level of e-inclusion and social inclusion

This paper introduces smart home as one of a possible way for improving the quality of everyday life, active ageing, social inclusion and intergenerational cooperation. Paper is focused mainly on telecare and telehealth services which are based on ambient intelligence and discusses some of the psychological factors that should not be overlooked when the telecare and telehealth services are introduced to potential end-users.

Research and development of assistive technologies

This conference contribution refers to necessity of inclusion of end users, particularly the socially excluded, in the research and development of technological solutions for particular social groups. As regards the R&D process related to the assistive technologies the lack of strategic planning and cooperation among the groups of key stakeholders and the identification of funding frameworks and business models are also discussed.
