Expression of bilitranslocase in the vascular endothelium and its function as a flavonoid transporter. Cardiovasc. Res.

Epidemiological studies suggest that diets rich in fruits and vegetables decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This seems to be related to the intake of polyphenols. This study was aimed, at confirming the expression of bilitranslocase in the rat aorta and in isolated endothelial cells and verifying the hypothesis that bilitranslocase may mediate the specific uptake of flavonoids therein. The data obtained suggest that flavonoids are rapidly taken up into the endothelium via bilitranslocase.

Determination of glutathione content in grape juice and wine by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection.

For the determination of glutathione content a modified preparation of sample with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection (FLD) and on-line pre-column derivatization in grape juice and wine was developed. The average glutathione content in 28 young Sauvignon Blanc wines was 12.5 mg/L.
