SERAŽIN, Helena. The Use of Vignola’s “moduli” on the Territory of Inner Austria: Convegno internazionale, Bologna

In this lecture, field and archival studies were presented of Vignola’s manual Regola delli cinque ordini d'Architettura, its role and usage among intellectuals and building engineers of the 17th-century sacral architecture in Slovenia. Findings show that the oldest copy of the manual, belonging to the edition of 1620 or 1630 is hosted by the Seminary Library in Ljubljana. Vignola’s moduli, i.e. proportions of architectural orders, were for the first time consistently used in a project, carried out by the members of Accademia operosorum: the building of the new Ljubljana cathedral.

MUROVEC, Barbara. Giulio Quaglio in Slovenia. Il Trionfo politico-religioso nella Cattedrale di Lubiana : L'Arte di Giulio Quaglio, Udine

The lecture is an attempt to present the frescoes in Ljubljana Cathedral from the aspects of iconography and cultural history. Within the otherwise rather schematic design which includes all of the usual Baroque iconographic arsenal the continuing depiction of the martyrdoms appears extremely drastic and bloody, which can be understood as the response of the patrons to the recent events in the empire, to Turkish invasions and the siege of Vienna in 1683. The concept is by far more strongly related than has been established in the hitherto literature to the most topical events.
