Potato virus Y is currently considered to be the most harmful virus in cultivated potatoes. We have shown that low temperature during potato tuber storage inhibits the necrosis development , which is important in potato production odf susteptible cultivars.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 4017768Potato virus Y is currently considered to be the most harmful virus in cultivated potatoes. We have shown that potato tuber storage temperature affects tuber necrosis development. Storage at low temperature down-regulates a large number of genes. On the other hand, infection up-regulates some of the genes with putative involvement in biotic stress and many genes associated with photosynthesis.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 3617384Breeding of new high quality potato cultivars adapted to Slovenian conditions enhance the quality of agricultural products on our market, which provides better foundation to our farmers to compete on domestic and international market. An important benefit is also healthier food for consumers. Five new Slovenian cultivars have been developed: KIS Kokra, KIS Sotla, KIS Mura, KIS Krka, KIS Vipava. New Slovenian cultivars have been bred and tested for Slovenian maket. The use of new domestic cultivars is the only way to maintain the existing seed production system in Slovenia in the future and prevent the complete dependence on the imported seed. For these reasons the results are of great importance for the co-funders of the project.
F.06 Development of a new product
COBISS.SI-ID: 3914088Review of potato varieties is prepared for potato producers in Slovenia on the basis of potato variety trials. On the basis of the results the project, the method for evaluation of sensitivity to PVYNTN on tubers in variety trials was optimized.
