In the collaboration with Lek/Sandoz, the co-financer of this project, we collaborated on the development of a novel approach for production of the generic compound FK506 (takrolimus). Identification of the genes in the “all” genetic subcluster helped the researchers of Acies Bio and Lek/Sandoz in designing and developing an improved approach for FK506 biosynthesis. Based on the results of the joint research work, Lek/Sandoz filed a patent application at the EPO.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3888760Gregor Kosec led an industrial project in collaboration with the company Lek/Sandoz which generated results with big potential for industrial use. Therefore, he was invited to present his results in the field of the novel bioprocess for production of FK506 at the Second annual conference of the CIPKEBIP centre of excellence »Biosynthetic and metabolic engineering in industrial drug and process development." At the conference he gave a lecture with the title: »New insights into substrate supply and regulation of FK506 biosynthesis and their implications for bioprocess development and drug discovery.«
