On suppression of output constraints violations using a predictive controller

Parametric model predictive control (p-MPC) provides an opportunity for industrial implementation of small-scale MPC control problems, including handling of constraints, with low computational demand. The use of p-MPC as an advanced PID replacement, with focus on suppression of disturbances in the critical range near output constraints, is investigated. A case study evaluation of an output feedback, offset-free tracking hybrid mp-MPC controller is presented, where the controller is used for water temperature control in the engine cooling subsystem of a combined heat and power production unit.

Multiple model approach to multi-parametric model predictive control of a nonlinear process - simulation case study

The paper presents evaluation of multi-parametric multiple-model predictive control (mp-MMPC) of nonlinear process. The approach is compared to linear-model-based mp-MPC, and to mp-MPC for hybrid piece-wise affine systems. It is evaluated in a simulation case study, where an output feedback, offset-free tracking mp-MMPC controller was considered as a replacement for a PID controller based scheme for control of pressure in a wire annealing machine.
