Using the holistic production control concept economic goals in a form of production performance indicators (pPI) are controlled. To realize such a control of a production, an adequate model is needed, which should be able to predict future behaviour of production performance indicators. In this article a modelling approach for proposes of a production optimization was presented on a well known Tennessee Eastman process.

A complex first principles model was derived and used to analyse the influence of reactants dosing during the batch on the reactor temperature. During the batch the two reactants, initiator and monomer, need to be appropriately dosed depending on the current process situation, otherwise, the temperature in the reactor may become oscillatory and unstable. A dosing strategy is demonstrated to provide improved results by using the simulation study.
