Simulation of normal and emergency situations in Ĺ entvid road tunnel

The paper deals with virtualization of all tunnel equipment in form of a computer based simulator which is capable of substituting a real tunnel while maintaining possibility to connect to real operator user interfaces. By doing this course of events during emergency events can be determined and analyzed. Assessment of emergency events is crucial in order to optimize operator and rescue service responses. Apart from that it can be used to develop and evaluate new equipment. The paper describes models that have been developed and evaluated during the project and presents a case study of tunnel operator training session on a virtualized tunnel.

Road tunnel evacuation modeling and visualization

Evacuation calculations are becoming a part of performance-based analyses to assess the level of life safety provided also in road tunnels. In order to fully assess the potential evacuation efficiency of a road tunnel in emergency conditions various aspects of the evacuation process (configurational, environmental, behavioral and procedural) should be addressed. In this paper computer based analysis of evacuation from road tunnels in case of emergency using simulation approach will be presented. The paper provides information on evacuation modeling purpose, modeling methods, structure and perspective, behavior, outputs, use of fire data and use of visualization.

Road tunnels: Operational Strategies for Emergency Ventilation

Ventilation systems in semi-enclosed spaces, such as tunnels, are of crucial importance for maintenance of sufficient air quality during normal and emergency conditions. During fire accidents smoke exhaustion is crucial for evacuation and rescue. The monograph assesses different types of tunnel ventilation systems and control of ventilation during emergency conditions. Effectiveness and reliability are crucial during tunnel fires and other emergency situations. Interactions between ventilation and fire fighting systems and other tunnel equipment are analyzed.
