This review covers the synthetic routs as well as the results of characterization studies of hyperbranched polyesters. The influence of the synthesis conditions on the structure and molar-mass characteristics of hyperbranched polyesters as well as the findings that allow a thorough understanding of the structure-property relationships are reviewed in detail. This review article is the result of our long-term scientific research on highly branched polymers and the fact that they are becoming more and more interesting polymers not only in the research area but also for applied purposes.

The importance of this study is that we have shown that the solubility of poorly-soluble drug glimiperide can be improved by preparing solid dispersion based on poly(esteramide) hyperbranched polymers. The influence of the mentioned results on the interested public is reflected in publication of newspaper article in NewsRx: http://www.newsrx.com/health-articles/2100283.html and in invited lecture with the title: »Dendritic polymers in drug delivery applications« on 5th EU conference Chemistry toward Biology.
