Ultra-high surface area functional porous polymers by emulsion templating and hypercrosslinking : efficient nucleophilic catalyst supports.

A new approach for increasing the relatively low surface area of polyHIPE material with micrometer scale pores, is described. Friedel-Crafts type reaction is used to connect neighbouring groups on the polymer matrix thus creating new pores, which are much smaller then existing ones. With controlling this reaction the amount of hypercrosslinking can be tailored. To such a support , an organic catalyst was bound and model reactions proved its efficiency.

Amine functionalisations of glycidyl methacrylate based polyHIPE monoliths.

Epoxy groups in glycidy methacrylate polymer matrix enables further chemical functionalization with nucleophilic reagents. In this paper, the results of functionalization with various amines and factors influencing the degree of functionalization, is described.
