1.
Cooperation with companies for the transfer of high technology

The members of the program team collaborate with several high-tech firms in Slovenia, e.g. Bia Separations, Bia, Lek-Sandoz, Krka, Omega. During the professional meeting Sygnificance of biotechnology in microbiology for the future, the project leader demonstrated the most important scientific achievements of the program, as well as its application trends. She emphasized the development of system for the detection and quantification of viruses from environmental waters. BIA Separation invited NIB to participate in the proposal for a new Center of excellence COBIK.

2.
Implementation of a system for the on-site concentration and detection of viruses from water samples

We have developed a method that can concentrate and detect viruses like Tomato mosaic virus, Pepino mosaic virus, Rotavirus, Calicivirus, and Hepatitis virus A. The method is based on the combination of CIM monoliths for concentration step and real time qPCR for the detection step and adapted it to on-site virus portable real time qPCR system, and modular pumps and UV detectors. The mentioned diagnostic strategy has been presented in different conferences, such as the V European Plant Protection Organization conference on diagnostics in York (UK), May 2009.
