The ATLAS simulation infrastructure

The simulation software for the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider is being used for large-scale production of events on the LHC Computing Grid. This simulation requires many components, from the generators that simulate particle collisions, through packages simulating the response of the various detectors and triggers. All of these components come together under the ATLAS simulation infrastructure. That infrastructure is discussed, as are the tools allowing the software validation, performance testing, and the validation of the simulated output against known physics processes.

Experimental deployment of a grid virtual organization for human language technologies

A proposal for creation of a grid virtual organization for human language technologies is described with the aim to enable linguistic researches to use existing distributed computing facilities of the European grid infrastructure for more efficient processing of large data sets. Several common use-cases of natural language processing tasks running on the grid are presented with a report on gridification of the tasks. Implementation considerations and common problems are analysed and requirements for a fully functional Human Language Technology grid Virtual Organization is presented.
