Top quark mass measurement

Measurement of the top quark mass plays an important role in constraining the possible values of the yet unobserved Higgs boson. Large improvements in the precision of the top mass determination have been achieved in recent years using advanced statistical methods, where per-event probability densities are formed by convolving leading order matrix elements and detector resolution functions. These results used Grid technology in the framework of the CDF virtual organization for both the production of Monte Carlo samples and the calculation of per event probabilities used in the top mass fit.

Search for WW and WZ production in lepton plus jets final state at CDF

The measurement of WW and WZ production is experimentally testing the couplings between electroweak bosons. The production of WW and WZ has not yet been observed at hadron colliders in the decay channel of a lepton and two or more jets, due to the large background of a single W and jets. The huge sample of W plus jets Monte-Carlo needed for this analysis has been generated over several weeks using the Grid technology in the framework of the CDF virtual organization.
